The Municipality of Yarmouth recognizes the importance of protecting the heritage properties within the municipality. These refer to buildings, streetscapes, sites and other structures of historical, cultural and architectural merit.

Some of the responsibilities of the Heritage Advisory Committee are to evaluate applications made by individuals or organizations to register property as a Municipal Heritage Property, to advise on applications to substantially alter or demolish heritage properties in the municipality, and to recommend that a property be placed in the Municipal Registry, in which there are now more than thirty buildings, monuments, and sites in the Municipality of Yarmouth.
