Property Valuation Services Corporation

Property Valuation Services Corporation (PVSC) is an independent, not-for-profit organization that is responsible for assessing all property in Nova Scotia as mandated under the Nova Scotia Assessment Act.  PVSC has approximately 140 employees in six offices across Nova Scotia.  Every year they generate property information that is used by municipalities, property owners and other stakeholders.

Nova Scotia Municipal Affairs

Nova Scotia Municipal Affairs is dedicated to working with municipalities to build healthy, vibrant, and safe communities throughout Nova Scotia. Municipal Affairs provides programs, grants, and funding opportunities for municipalities and community groups. The department also provides services and guidance to municipalities in many areas including budget planning and finance, land use planning and infrastructure development, and policy and program development.

The Municipal Government Act is the piece of legislation that grants municipalities in Nova Scotia the authority to operate.  It lays out the roles and responsibilities of both the political and administrative branches of municipal government and outlines the rules and guidelines by which municipalities can serve their residents.
